About Bernardsville: Originally a section of Bernards Township known as Vealtown, named after Sir Francis Bernard, colonial governor of New Jersey from 1758 to 1760, Bernardsville is nestled in the northern most part of Somerset County, just 12 miles south of Morristown. This rustic community sits in some of the last vestiges of the Great Eastern Forest. After the Civil War, many wealthy, prominent and well known New Yorkers moved into the area, first as summer visitors renting "cottages", then hiring prominent New York architects to design and build their own extraordinary estates and mansions to become permanent residents of the exclusive Bernardsville Mountain.

Bernardsville Location: The railroad line was built through Bernardsville in 1872 and played an important role in the borough's development. Bernardsville did not become an independent municipality until 1924, when it split from Bernards Township. Today the rail line continues to play an important role in commuting passengers from Bernardsville to New York and Hoboken. Approximately an hours drive to Manhattan and just 30 minutes from Newark Liberty International Airport, there is easy access to Routes 78, 24 and 287. A short ride for an outstanding shopping experience will bring you to the renowned Mall at Short Hills and Bridgewater Malls. The Mayo Center for the Performing Arts, just 10 minutes away in Morristown has outstanding musical, artistic performances and cultural events. Local parks, outstanding golf courses, equestrian facilities and much more are minutes away. With a population of just under 8,000 it boasts wonderful restaurants, excellent schools and upscale shopping.
