Since its pre-Revolutionary War founding in 1740, Morris Township has become a highly desirable and dynamic hometown for New Jersey families, while still maintaining its distinct, historical flavor. The township spans about 15 miles with a population of just over 22,000, and includes the small, unincorporated community of Convent Station. It also surrounds the more densely populated Morristown, where the stylish streets are lined with boutiques, exclusive restaurants, popular bars, an authentic Irish Pub, chic NYC-style lounges, and even a performing arts center. In addition to plenty of parks, nature trails and recreational facilities, Morris Township residents also have access to a beautiful township pool and tennis courts. Unique cultural activities include the Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, an accurate re-creation of a Victorian-era working farm, and the Morris Museum, which offers live entertainment, art displays and special events year round. The area is also home to the Morristown National Historical Park, where General George Washington and the Continental Army famously spent the cold winter of 1779-1780 encamped at the Jockey Hollow site. Hockey and skating enthusiasts enjoy close proximity to the Mennen Sports Arena, while equestrian fans will be tempted by the town’s 38-acre Seaton Hackney Stables complex that offers riding lessons, training, show jumping and more. Several renowned floral events take place at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, also located in the township. The Morris Museum also hosts it’s very own “Bickford Theatre”
While the area is known for its many pre-Revolutionary era homes and million-dollar estates, you’ll find plenty of welcoming neighborhoods that boast a variety of architectural styles, from center hall Colonials to historic cape cods. Morris Township is also home to condominiums, ranch-style homes and more contemporary residences. Regardless of where you live in the township, commuting to New York City is a breeze…with convenient, direct train service to Manhattan from both Morristown and Convent Station in just an hour. Highway commuters also enjoy easy access to routes 287/24 and 202. Morris Township shares a school system with Morristown to form the Morris School District. Morristown High School recently had 15 students recognized for outstanding performance in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. The Academy of St. Elizabeth, the oldest school for girls in the state, as well as the College of Saint Elizabeth, a private four-year, liberal arts college for women, are both located in Morris Township. Morris Township is a sought-after choice for many homeowners because it truly showcases the best NJ has to offer. Whether you want to enjoy wildlife, revisit the footsteps of George Washington and his troops, or simply spend a fabulous night on the town—you’re going to love living here. Come for a town tour so you too can see why Morristown is such a special place.
